Vegetation
Hey, heres were we can post vegetation, If you have reference images from the show that can help modelers make accurate trees/bushes/ext please post them.
Ive always thought, though the console games look pretty, the vegetation is just too realistic.
So Im going to attempt a more cartoon, hand drawn look to the vegetation.
Update:
Need opinions
As you can see there were alot of changes from the WIP version above.
Took about.. an hour..
I don't time my stuff so It may have been longer.
The textures literally took 2 minutes to make.
Since details (individual leaves, crazily detailed bark) are not the aim of my view of how the graphics should be, textures can be easily made, and still look good.
If its liked ill start on the LOD versions. and it will give me a general Idea of how the Vegetation should look in general.

Re: Vegetation
Nice, now try bigger trees..think of the chuunin exam forest. You got me thinking about how we'll need different shaders for vegetation so they still look cartoony.
Re: Vegetation
Yeah ill do that now.
And any idea how to shade the leaves? I mean they are just flat 2d planes with a texture that has an alpha channel.
How do you shade that without have the whole 2d plane?
Dynamic shadows are probably not that important though.

How so? you can change lighting and effects with shaders, so I wouldn't worry about that yet. And yeah, make them planes, we'll be using aggressive LOD.
Re: Vegetation
thats look good but they should be bigger, not just becuz of that chunin exam forest, but also becuz they should be able to jump on the the branches as they do in the anime constantly

Re: Vegetation
Thats more of a Konoha style tree. you can jump on top of it, but the branches are not exposed.

Re: Vegetation
Yea thats the PERFECT look, what program did you use? both to make the tree and to texture it?
I really like that look, its something we should go for\have.

Re: Vegetation
If anyone can come up with a good texture for the tree, thats basically the only problem.
Im trying to study how they look in the anime. and they vary greatly.
But the leaves always look the same.
If we can perfect that, then the base will be pretty easy.
They are just long straight, with a few limbs here and there, some big enough to jump and land on, but they are pretty basic in look.
I dont know how the shading of leaves works (On the whole, not each plane), but the shaded areas are practically 100% black.

Re: Vegetation
Slightly more detailed leaves. Just testing different styles.

It looks fantastic.
Could you focus, on lots of diffrent trees, of diffrent sizes and shapes.
You have the perfect idea behind it. And really good skills to make it happen.

Re: Vegetation
Yeah ive been trying to research the naruto trees. its seems like they are easy to make intill you make them.
They have to be huuuggeee. massive limbs to jump on, and yet, has to look good too.
Ill definitely try a bigger tree soon.
