hmmm, At first I didn't realize why you guys wanted to create your own jutsu, then I saw the Shippuuden episodes....now I know why.

The thought of creating your own ninjutsu moves would be freaking sweet. However I agree with Swordmen on the fact that some people would abuse this and do things that would be inappropriate to be seen by other players. But, at the same time you can argue the fact that the Japense Anime does you some fowl language, and that really just depends on wether or not you believe things like that are inappropriate.

But where I see the big problem is on creating the jutsu. So some people would just do powerful chakra blasts and things, as where some may want to create a jutsu that changes the terrain or create boulders to fall and if you think about it hard, you can come up with an endless amount of jutsu that you would think is cool. because I think it would be cool if you could create your own rasengan style move, but not everyone would want to do that.

My opinion is that ninjutsu should be pre-created and you have to learn it from another player or an NPC teacher. And there should be requirements of the levels of jutsu you can learn. BUT if you can think of a way to implement custom jutsu, then I would love to see how it works because it would be the coolest thing ever, and if the word spreads that you can create your own killer moves in an MMO, i think that that would grab a lot of attention.

Creating a jutsus is technically VERY hard.

Plus itd wind up pretty shitty anyway.

unless you threw in some crazy editor that only allows people who know how to design graphics/games/code to make their own special effects and graphics.

I dont think it would be all that difficult, actually Razz. You could first have a choice of 'attack type' showing different geometry which determine the area the effect would need to be in. For example: To make a rasengan type move you would choose a sphere. After that, You could choose 1 element you have mastered (maybe 2 for extremely experienced shinobi??). Say you choose fire element. The fire effect is applied to the sphere, creating the graphic. Or another example you choose an 'attack type' that shows a shinobi standing inside an oval (full body chidori anyone?). You then choose fire element which applies the fire effect in a sphere around the characters body. Perhaps you then add lightning element which applies both fire and lightning elements to the damage aura. If set up this way technique creation could be quite possible. (and very cool Smile)

Or we could just make a fire element rasengan and cut out the work of having to make a editor.

You're assuming that people would have to know how to script/model/animate to be able to make a jutsu Razz. They could be made that way, or they could be made through an editor which applies graphical effects to an area determined by the choice of attack type geometry. After that, it would simply be a matter of having graphics for each attack type geometry with each type of element (and their combinations). Yes, it would be some work, but I don't think it should be dismissed so easily simply because it would be challenging to encorporate. Smile Personally, I believe any features allowing players to make their characters more unique are a good thing. It's just a matter of making sure the features get added in a way that allows for creative strategies without unbalancing things.

What you could do is have various jutsu for random handsign combinations, and let the people experiment.

So, if they find one of the jutsu, you could have a message saying some thing like
"Congratulations! You have discovered a new jutsu!"

And if the combination they try does not have a jutsu made to it, then they'd get the message:
"Nothing happened..."

So, it's like, they're not actually creating the jutsus, because they could abuse that, but they still get to try out different combinations and find new jutsus on their own. And the creators can create new jutsu every so often and assign it to a free handsign combination. It's a compromise.

True. but, the problem is that if someone discovers a jutsu...then he'll tell all of his friends about how to unlock the jutsu (if he's smart enough to write down the handsigns).

Heheh, some great discussion going on here Razz

I think it'd be nice to actually create your own techniques..certainly a possibility. I'd make some kind of technique creation screen where you can bend shapes in 3d and change the colours, but you'll only be able to make certain effects [e.g. lifting up parts of the ground if your element is wind] if you're really skilled in that area.

And why stop at ninjutsu? Very Happy

id be either, incredibly crappy, or would be Faaarr too complicated for any random person to use, because they'd need alot of artistic and 3d skills.

I think that it would require just to much to do this. And it we may be better off just creating a ton of jutsu, nin and gen. Thats why if you have an idea in your head of type of ninjutsu you want to create, then post it. This way we could see what sort of things people want to do and maybe if it is within reasonable grasp, maybe we could have the ability to create your own jutsu. But saying you want to use a rasengan with a different element isn't really be creative, and it would probablly make more sense to just have it pre-created (and that goes for a sheild of element around your body). The best way to do something like this is to post what your idea is, and find out if its do able.

The way I see it is that your going to have to pre-create the ability to choose a sphere, or any other shape, and then apply a wind element to it, and so know you have a sphere of one of 5 elements (or combination of 2) and so your really not craeting your own technique, because other people will only have the option to create the same thing as you anyways.

EDIT - and to think about it a bit more, ok you take your sphere and turn it into a small ball with spikes, and your facing a guy with a small pryamid shaped rasengan, and you attack at the same time and it would just cancel the other move out anyways, so would the shape of the chakra determine whats best? then you would have everyone with the same shape, and it would still cancel out.

Nah, we could have a preset number of effects (including anims) that they can do..nothing special to test, and we'll have thorough tests anyway. Collision detection is done for us with Havok Physics, and the other stuff is just numbers Smile
